voltage-sensitive calcium channels

voltage-sensitive calcium channels
(= VSCC)
A variety of voltage-sensitive calcium channels are known and on the basis of electrophysiological and pharmacological criteria are grouped into six classes. The general function is to allow calcium influx into the cell as a result of membrane depolarization. The majority (L-type, N-type, P-type and Q-type channels require substantial depolarization and are sometimes collectively known as high voltage-activated types. The R-type channels activate after moderate depolarization and the T-type channel opens at relatively negative potentials.
